Multiphase Ceramics
Multiphase ceramics, which include titanates, zirconates, phosphates and silicates exhibit excellent compositional flexibility, and chemical durability. They can be readily tailored to immobilize HLW that do not contain a significant proportion of glass forming components, and can be produced by various process technologies.
Target waste streams:
Actinides
Reprocessed wastes (cesium and strontium, technetium, ....)
These waste forms are designed around very durable natural mineral analog phases that have demonstrated their survival in nature of geological timeframes.
