ANSTO is The
Australian Nuclear Science & Technology Organisation and
is Australia’s national nuclear lab.
Among ANSTO’s facilities at the Lucas Heights Science and Technology
Centre in Sydney (Australia) are the Hi-Flux Australian Reactor (HIFAR); the
Australian National Tandem Accelerator for Applied Research
(ANTARES) and associated accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS)
facilities and high energy heavy ion microprobe.

A replacement reactor for HIFAR (see photo below) is under
construction, for commissioning in 2005-06. In
addition, a new accelerator is being installed.
ANSTO also operates radiopharmaceutical
production facilities at Lucas Heights. The National Medical
Cyclotron at Camperdown is owned, operated and used by ANSTO.
ANSTO
employs approximately 850 staff which includes
radiopharmaceutical researchers and production staff.
